The Secretary of State for Energy Policy, Avelino Coelho, inaugurated the community photovoltaic energy central in Rotuto, Same, donated by the Coica Organization, through the Korean NGO Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), on the 20th December 2010.
This is a pilot system introduced in Timor-Leste by the YMCA NGO, in cooperation with the Secretariat of State for Energy Policy.
The Rotuto population is made up of 350 families, divided into 5 villages. Each family received a 6 watt lamp and a rechargeable battery. The charging central is installed at the suco headquarters.
Besides the Secretary of State for Energy Policy, others also participated in the inauguration ceremony of the community photovoltaic energy central of Rotuto, such as the Coica and the YMCA President, the Administrator of Manufahi, the Same Sub-administrator, chiefs of Suco, community groups and local population.
