Conference and Debate on the Project to Strengthen Public Finance Management and Oversight in Timor-Leste

The Minister of Justice, Sérgio de Jesus Fernandes da Costa Hornai, and the Vice-Minister of Finance, Claudinanda Cruz Carvalho, participated in the Conference and Debate “Osan Povu Nian, Jere Ho Di’ak” (Managing Public Money Wisely), which took place on February 22nd and 23rd, 2024, at the Hotel Timor, in Dili. Over the last six years, the PFMO, guided by the Motto “Osan Povu Nian, Jere ho Di’ak” (Managing Public Money Wisely), has played an essential role in strengthening the skills of national entities in the management and supervision of public finances. This project promoted dialogue and interaction between Timorese and Portuguese entities. With a total investment of 12,6 million euros, PFMO was co-funded by the European Union and co-funded and managed by Camões, IP.  Conference and Debate on the Project to Strengthen Public Finance Management and Oversight in Timor Leste

During the ceremony, the European Union Ambassador emphasised that “Timor-Leste is undoubtedly at a crucial moment in its development and has the necessary conditions to maintain its commitment in essential areas, including Justice and Public Finances”.  Conference and Debate on the Project to Strengthen Public Finance Management and Oversight in Timor Leste

Over the six years of the project’s implementation, more than 169,000 hours of technical training and 63,000 hours of training in the Portuguese language have been carried out. Through the PFMO, 146 people in the Land and Property System, 101 PCIC investigators and laboratory technicians, 33 judges and 18 prosecutors have received training.
