Government reaffirms commitment on International Women’s Day

On this International Women’s Day, the 8th Constitutional Government congratulates all women in Timor-Leste and reiterates its commitment to continue to develop policies to increase the participation of women in all areas of society, including politics, employment, education and health.

Women have played a fundamental role in our nation’s history and continue contributing to it in the present and the future. Therefore, on this day, the Government reaffirms its commitment to promote and protect women’s rights in Timor-Leste and to continue striving for a more just and equitable world for all citizens.

The Spokesperson of the 8th Constitutional Government, Minister Fidelis Magalhães, emphasised the importance “of this day to remind us of the goal of our independence, which is to create conditions for a dignified life for all Timorese, Timorese women and men” and recognised “that there is still a long way ahead to achieve the maximum participation and involvement of women in the development process and to reach our final objective.

Minister Fidelis also expressed the belief “that each year we can improve the investment and equal opportunities for all women” and assured that “all State institutions remain sensitive to the participation of women in the political, economic, and social life of our country”. END
