Paralympic athletes participating in the ASEAN Para Games 2022 were welcomed by the Prime Minister

Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, received today, August 8th, at the Government Palace, the national athletes who participated in the ASEAN Para Games 2022 and brought 12 medals, five gold, two silver and five bronze. This year's edition of the event was held in Solo, Indonesia.

The ASEAN Para Games is a biennial multi-sport event contested exclusively by Southeast Asian athletes with physical, mental, or sensory disabilities.

The event took place from July 30th to August 6th, 2022, and included the participation of 1,648 athletes from 11 Southeast Asian countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam).

In his speech, the Head of the Government expressed his contentment “for welcoming these athletes who returned with such a positive result” and added that “you are a pride for the nation and the Timorese people”.

The Prime Minister assured that “the Government will gather the conditions so that these benefits may be even better in the future”.

“On behalf of the 8th Government, the State and the people of Timor-Leste I salute you, I congratulate you, because you have projected our flag to the world”, “which means that there is an effort, a mutual feeling, dedication, and therefore you are a reference for all of us, starting with me, the Prime Minister, up to our citizens,” stated the Head of Government.

Besides the Prime Minister, athletes and coaches, the Minister of Education Youth and Sports, Armindo Maia, and the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Abrão Saldanha, also attended the ceremony.
