The Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães, met, on March 14th, 2022, with the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Timor-Leste, Roy Trivedy, and with the World Food Programme (WFP) Director in Timor-Leste, Dageng Liu.

During the meeting, Roy Trivedy and Dageng Liu congratulated and thanked the gesture made by the Government of Timor-Leste, which decided, in the last Council of Ministers meeting, to make a donation of US$ 1.5 million, to contribute for humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian people.

More than 1.7 million people affected by the conflict have fled Ukraine, causing the largest humanitarian crisis in Europe since World War II.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator pointed out that Timor-Leste is the first Southwest Asian nation to contribute financially for humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian people.

The Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the two United Nations representatives also discussed national food security and also the new phase of the basic food basket programme and ways to promote local production and food diversification.
