Ministry of Social Solidarity opens Community Center

The Ministry of Social Solidarity, through the Minister, Maria Domingas Alves, inaugurated last week, a Community Center in Mauk, Comoro suco, Dom Aleixo sub-district, Dili district.

The Center will be the place where the community can come together. According to the Minister “the construction project is a way of creating stability, trust and at the same time protect the community”. The Secretary of State of Social Assistance, Jacinto Rigoberto Gomes de Deus, highlighted that “this Center has multiple functions, can be used for infant and juvenile activities, among others, and is prepared with access for persons with special needs/handicaps”.

The Community Center of Manleuana is an important pillar to foment good relations among the community members and thus promoting friendship, unity, Peace and stability within the community.

For Elvino Maria dos Santos, a Manleuana suco community member, “the construction of this Center allows, for the old and for the youth and children, that separated during the 2006 crises, to forget that what happened in the pass and come together at last”.

The construction of this Center has the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Australia Government (AUSAID) with a total budget of USD $42,360.

Also participating in the ceremony were the Minister of State Administration and Territorial Planning, Arcângelo Leite, UNDP and AUSAID representatives, the Dom Aleixo sub-district Administrator and the community leaders for the suco of Comoro.
