Meeting of the Council of Ministers on November 4, 2020
The Council of Ministers met, at the Government Palace, in Dili, and decided, under the Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Planning and Territory, José Maria dos Reis, proposal to proceed with the project of Timor-Leste’s digital connection, through submarine fibre optic cable, to the cities of Darwin and Port Hedland, in Commonwealth of Australia.
The procurement procedure, presented by the Minister of Public Works, Salvador Soares dos Reis Pires, for the lease of the fuel unloading infrastructure to the Hera’s Power Station deposit, for a period of three years, was also approved, given that the State does not have this infrastructure and needs to rent it from private companies for its use in the unloading of essential fuel for the production of energy in power plants.
The Minister of State Administration, Miguel Pereira de Carvalho, presented the political and legislative options for the Law Proposal draft on the first amendment to the Electoral Registration Law and for the Law Proposal draft on the third amendment of the Electoral Administration Organs Law. The normative interventions aim to make some adjustments to the registration procedures in order to provide greater transparency to the electoral registration process, as well as to introduce some adjustments to the Electoral Administration Organs Law, namely in promoting greater collaboration between the two organs of the Electoral Administration, to allow more effective coordination between them, in order to achieve a higher standard of civic education among the population and uniform dissemination of relevant information on electoral matters.
Lastly, Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak and the national representative of the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement, made a presentation to the Council of Ministers on the structure and common results of the National Consolidated Action Plan for Food Security and Nutrition. The plan presents the main priorities to be met by the relevant Ministries, Partners, Non-Governmental Organizations and Civil Society, in order to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG2), of reducing malnutrition and food insecurity in Timor-Leste until 2030.
