Government meet with the National Parliament Committees to start public hearings on the 2020 GSB

A series of public hearings, organised by the Permanent Specialised Committees of the National Parliament began this morning, September 23rd, 2020, at the National Parliament, on the initial assessment of the Law Proposal on the General State Budget (GSB) for 2020 term. The public hearings will take place until September 25th.

During this period, the Commissions will welcome members of the Government, the Presidency of the Republic, leaders of the Public Administration and representatives of civil society to discuss and clarify the sectoral budgets for the 2020 financial year.

The report and opinion will then be prepared for discussion at the Plenary Session on the 2020 GSB Proposal Law draft, which will commence with an overall discussion and vote, on October 1st and 2nd. The detailed discussion and vote, and the final global vote, will take place between October 5th and 8th. The final wording should be sent to the President of the Republic on October 9th, 2020.

The GSB Law Proposal draft, has a total amount of US$ 1.497 billion, to cover the needs of the national programme and priorities defined by the VIII Constitutional Government, namely at the social and economic sectors’ stabilization, and the ongoing institutional reform processes. The document also includes expenditure on the COVID-19’s response and on economic recovery measures. The GSB proposal was approved at the Council of Ministers’ Meeting on  August 26th, 2020 and submitted to the National Parliament on September 15th.

The 2021 GSB is also in progress, and will be submitted by the Government to the National Parliament on October 15th.
