The Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães, made a working visit to the National Press of Timor-Leste (Imprensa Nacional de Timor-Leste, INTL), on July 23rd, 2020.

INTL is a public institute dedicated to respond to all of the State and private entities needs for graphic production.

During the visit, the head of INTL, Jaime Correia, expressed his satisfaction for the Minister's first visit to the INTL premises, after his inauguration as Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

Jaime Correia gave a brief historical overview of the institution, described the organizational structure and presented the results achieved and the challenges that INTL faces. The Director also accompanied the Minister in a guided visit tour through the production areas and the library of the State’s print facility.

The Minister informed the Director that this visit is part of the process of reorganizing the work of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), which includes INTL, in order to hear the immediate concerns of the institution for its proper functioning.

So, Fidelis Magalhães has already instructed the Director General of PCM, so that the necessary resources for an effective transformation of INTL into a Public Institute are inserted in the State Budget of 2020 or 2021.

Another of the objectives of the visit of the Governor, refers to the improvement of the internal management and the articulation between INTL with the other State institutions, namely with the PCM Legal Support Office, in order to guarantee methods of verification and review of public acts, in order to ensure the quality of the diplomas, which are published in the Jornal da República.

Fidelis Magalhães wished success and continued good work to the INTL team and said that a gradual transformation of the institution's operation will be conducted, so that, in the medium term, INTL is able to increase its revenues and become self-sufficient.

Created in 1960, under the name "National Press", its mission was to publicize the official acts of the colonial government and produce the official forms. During the Indonesian occupation, the institution has kept the same activity, with the name "Badan Percetakan Nasional".

With the restoration of the independence of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, it is now called “Gráfica Nacional”. In 2013, it started a transformation process, with the approval of its Strategic Restructuring and Modernization Plan, with the aim of gradually transform it into a modern and self-sustainable company. In 2016, this process led to its entry into the national market, starting to provide graphic production services, also, for private entities. In 2017, it becomes a Public Institute and changed its name to which it is now known, “Imprensa Nacional de Timor-Leste”.
