The Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, chaired today, June 12, 2020, in the Council of Ministers room in Dili, a meeting of the Interministerial Coordination Commission for the implementation of prevention measures and the control of the new Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) with the coordinators of the Situation Room of the Integrated Crisis Management Centre  (CIGC).

During the meeting, the coordinators of the Situation Room of the Integrated Crisis Management Center presented to the Interministerial Commission the assessment of the general situation in the country, the results of the measures to prevent and combat SARS-CoV-2  already  implemented and the options and recommendations for the strategy to be followed after the end of the third phase of the state of emergency.

The Prime Minister expressed pride in the work done by the CIGC, which resulted in the fact that Timor-Leste currently has no active cases of SARS-CoV-2.

The Head of Government instructed CIGC members to prepare a report on the activities carried out to be presented to the National Parliament and warned of the need for the CIGC and all relevant Ministries, especially the Ministry of Health, to continue efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and the necessary infrastructure for the prevention and fight against COVID-19.

Timor-Leste recorded a total of 24 confirmed positive cases of people infected with the new Coronavirus and four probable cases. All patients recovered and since May 15 there are no active cases in the national territory.

The new Coronavirus appeared late last year in Wuhan City, China, and was first reported by Chinese authorities to the World Health Organization (WHO) on December 31, 2019.

COVID-19 has affected more than 7.5 million people and caused more than 420,000 deaths in 213 countries and territories. More than 3.8 million people have already recovered from the disease.
