Timor-Leste receives equipment and medical supplies to fight COVID-19

A number of equipment and medical supplies have arrived in Dili today to support the fight against COVID-19, offered by the People’s Republic of China, on a flight from Shanghai, China. The ceremony of delivery of the material took place at the International Airport President Nicolau Lobato and was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Dionísio Babo Soares and the Ambassador of China in Timor-Leste, Xiao Jianguo.

The Government, through the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, has been undertaking all efforts since January 28, 2020 to ensure with the Government of the People’s Republic of China the supply of technical and human resources of China, necessary for the fight against COVID-19 in Timor-Leste.

After donating a first batch of medical equipment, which included a thermal imaging camera for temperature monitoring, which arrived on March 4, the Chinese Government now delivers to Timor-Leste a second batch of medical supplies that include 42,000 masks, 40,000 KN95 masks, 4400 protective suits, 4440 visors, 4,400 shoe covers, 5000 medical gloves, 80 thermometers and 90 portable ventilators.

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China is closely monitoring the situation of COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, in constant contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MNEC), and has supported Timor-Leste in the fight against COVID-19, with the provision of medical supplies, with the sharing of information and knowledge and with the encouragement to the Chinese community and companies to make donations. 9b7a98c8 cb5b 491c 8d35 7f90d4aa66c9 300x200 Timor Leste receives equipment and medical supplies to fight COVID 19

The Chinese Government is already preparing a third batch of medical supplies, in coordination with MNEC, the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba foundation to deliver a new donation.
