Government meets with the Committees of the National Parliament for the start of public hearings for consideration of the OGE 2020.

This morning, 6th of January 2020, began a round of public hearings promoted by the Permanent Specialized Committees of the National Parliament on the implementation of the General State Budget (OGE) 2019 and an initial assessment of the Proposed Law on OGE for 2020. Public hearings run until January 10. During this period the Committees will receive the members of the Government, Presidency of the Republic, Leaders of public administration and representatives of civil society. In the first two days of public hearings, Members of Commission A – Committee on Constitutional Affairs and Justice – receive the Minister of State and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Director of the National Centre Chega!, the Office for Civil Society Support, the Ombudsman for Human Rights and Justice and the National Election Commission, for debate and clarification of their budgets for the financial year 2020.

A report will then be prepared and the opinion will be debated at the Plenary Session for the discussion the Draft Law of the OGE 2020, which will begin with the discussion and vote in general, on January 15, 16 and 17. The specialty discussion and vote and final global vote will take place between January 20 and January 30. The final wording is expected to be sent to the President of the Republic on the 31st of January 2020.

The OGE Proposal, with a total amount of US$ 1,668 million (one billion six hundred and sixty-eight million U.S. dollars), including revenue from the RAEOA/ZEESM and Loans, will cover the needs of the program and national priorities defined by the Eight Constitutional Government. The OGE Proposal was adopted at the Meeting of the Council of Ministers of 19 December 2019 and was submitted on the same day to the National Parliament.
