Meeting of the Council of Ministers of October 16, 2019

The Council of Ministers met at the Government Palace in Dili and heard a presentation by the Minister of Defense, Filomeno da Paixão de Jesus, on the National Maritime Authority System. Considering that the sea is identified in the national strategy as a fundamental vector for the development of the nation, three options are being studied for the creation of the National Maritime Authority (AMN), in order to potentiate the national geostrategic position, with the effective management of valuable resources in the sea and assuming the responsibilities of a coastal State in the chapters of maritime safety and environment protection.

The Minister of Social Solidarity and Inclusion, Armanda Berta dos Santos, received full powers for the signature of the subsidiary agreement between the Government of Timor-Leste and the Federal Government of Australia, concerning the Program for the Elimination of Violence against Women in Timor-Leste (Nabilan). This agreement will be concluded in accordance with the memorandum of understanding signed by the two parties in 2003, and will replace the previous agreement, signed in 2014 and will be implemented by June 2022. The Nabilan program works in the prevention and improvement of support services and access to justice, with the aim of ensuring that women and children in Timor-Leste, including marginalised groups such as people with disabilities, live without violence and can contribute to a stronger society.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs  and Cooperation, Dionísio da Costa Babo Soares, presented to the Council of Ministers the amendment to the list of names to be proposed to the President of the Republic for the leadership of the diplomatic missions of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in the Lao People's Democratic Republic and Vatican. ENDS
