Visit to shelter housing for victims of domestic violence in Lospalos

The Deputy Minister of Social Solidarity and Inclusion, Signi Verdial and the First Lady of Timor-Leste, Cidália Lopes Nobre Mouzinho Guterres, visited the shelter house (Uma Mahon) of Lospalos, capital of the municipality of Lautem, on October 10, 2019. The visit was aimed at verifying the conditions and difficulties faced by victims of domestic violence and sexual violence in this shelter house.

Signi Verdial said that "in order to respond to the difficulties that the Social Solidarity Institutions (ISS) face, it is necessary to have an adequate budget, so the budgetary plan for 2020 proposed by the Ministry of Solidarity Social and Inclusion (MSSI) for the ISS predicts an increase of 2 million USD”.

“I hope that this budget can be given the necessary support for ISS to finance and conduct their activities better”, the deputy minister added.

Cidalia Mouzinho Guterres said that, as First Lady, she has the "mission to look after women and children victims of domestic violence and rape, with the aim of verifying their conditions and hearing their concerns, Including the difficulties faced by shelter houses". She further noted that the First Lady's office also has its own budget to support the victims' needs"
