70 journalists receive Portuguese language training certificates

The ceremony for the award of certificates of Portuguese language training, in the context of the project of the Language Lab for Journalists, was held on the 6th of September in the auditorium of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, at the Government Palace in Dili. Under this program a total of 70 trainees received certificates of basic and intermediate level in Portuguese language.

This project results from a partnership between Camões, the Institute of Cooperation and Language and the secretariat of State for Social Communication (SECOMS) and aims to train Timorese media professionals for the transmission of trustworthy information in Portuguese language to the public, thus contributing to the increase of media, economic/financial and legal literacy and to the promotion of the general knowledge of the population.

The Secretary of State for the media, Mericio Juvinal dos Reis "Akara", praised the trainees who participated in Portuguese language courses for journalists and who obtained their certificates successfully.

The Secretary of State also thanked the trainers of the Language Lab for Journalists (CLJ) program who, with effort and dedication, make the most of this project and of the trainees and also thanked Camões, the Institute of Cooperation and Language for implementing and executing with dedication and professionalism, through the CLJ, this Portuguese language course, which has contributed to improve the information in Portuguese language in the national territory.

The Ambassador of Portugal thanked the constant availability and friendship of SECOMS for cooperation in the area of social communication, specifically, in Portuguese language proficiency.

The President of Camões, Institute of Cooperation and Language, Luís Faro Ramos, stressed the importance of the project of the Language Lab for Journalists (CLJ) for Timor-Leste for providing training and proficiency in the Portuguese language to a set of professionals who work in a sector which is fundamental for the country, both at the level of internal as well as external relations.

According to Luís Faro Ramos, this project will certainly have continuity and is awaiting the process of reformulation and intervention under the Strategic Cooperation Program (PEC) 2019-2023 between the two countries.

Of the 70 graduates who received certificates, 20 received a basic level certificate A1 and A2, 21 intermediate level B1 and 29 intermediate level B2.

The ceremony was attended by the Secretary of State for the media, Mericio Juvinal dos Reis "Akara", by the Ambassador of Portugal in Timor-Leste, José Pedro Machado Vieira, by the President of Camões, Institute of Cooperation and Language, Luís Faro Ramos and trainees and trainers of the Language Lab for Journalists.

The directors of SECOMS, the attaché for the area of cooperation, Cristina Faustino, the director of the services of bilateral cooperation of Camões, Odete Serra and graduates and trainers of the CLJ also attended this ceremony.
