The new buildings of the Episcopal Palace and the Ecclesiastical Chamber of the Diocese of Maliana were inaugurated on 17 February in Lugululi, in the Municipality of Bobonaro.

The Diocese of Maliana has existed since January 30, 2010 and covers three Municipalities, Bobonaro, Covalima and Liquiça, located in the border areas between Timor-Leste and Indonesia.

The construction of these buildings was funded by the Government through the Civil Society Support Office of the Prime Minister's Office (GASC-GPM).

The inauguration ceremonies were attended by the Bishop of Maliana, D. Norberto do Amaral, Bishop of Díli, D. Virgílio do Carmo da Silva, Bishop of Baucau, D. Basilio do Nascimento, former President of the Republic, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão and the Coordinator of GASC-GPM, Joaquim Freitas.

Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão in her speech appealed to the Church "to care for and provide training for young people, because Timor-Leste needs young people with knowledge, workers and caretakers."
