Timor-Leste and Indonesia Held Second Exploratory Meeting on Maritime Boundaries in Singapore

The Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and the Republic of Indonesia convened the Second Exploratory Meeting on Maritime Boundaries Delimitation in Singapore from 26 to 27 February, 2019.

This meeting followed the last exploratory meeting that was held between the two countries in Bali in December 2018.  Timor-Leste’s delegation was led by the Chief Negotiator Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão and the delegation of Indonesia was led by Damos Dumoli Agusman, Director General for Legal Affairs and International Treaties, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The countries met in a spirit of cooperation to advance discussions about technical and administrative matters relating to maritime boundary delimitation.

“The meeting in Singapore builds momentum following the previous meeting in Bali and represents another important step towards formal negotiations on our maritime boundaries with Indonesia,” said the Chief Negotiator Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão.

The Government spokesperson, Agio Pereira, said “the Exploratory Meeting in Singapore demonstrates the productive relationship between Timor-Leste and Indonesia and the agreement to delimit our maritime boundaries in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.”
