Swearing-in of the President of the National Institute of Social Security

The President and members of the Board of Directors of the National Social Security Institute (INSS) took office on January 22, 2019, at a ceremony held in the building of the Ministry of Social Solidarity.

Those appointed to be in charge of INSS's management and management are Longuinhos Armando, as President, and Cornelio Barros, Azavedo Marcal, Alberto Carvalho Araújo and Romalho da Costa as members of the Board of Directors.

During the swearing-in, the Minister of Social Solidarity and Inclusion, Armanda Berta dos Santos, stated that the appointments were based on the provisions of Government Resolution No. 24/2018 of December 5, on the appointment of members of the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Social Security and that they will allow the operation of the institution to begin.

The Minister called on the Chairman, the members of the Management Board and all the staff to carry out their duties with integrity and responsibility. The members now in office come from the private sector, the Timor-Leste Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCITL), the Trade Union and the Government itself as focal point of contact for Social Security work.

The President of the INSS, Longuinhos Armando, said that "it is a great honour and privilege, as a Timorese, to lead this great institution. I thank the Government, which through the MSSI, has believed in me to run this institution for the next three years".

"As a Timorese, I want to work together with everyone so that this institution can carry out quality work, because this institution was created to guarantee public and private sector employees their income for the future”, said the President.

Longuinhos Armando also stressed that "the short-term priorities plan includes the appointment of the executive director and the socialization of the institution throughout the territory, because our workers still do not understand well when part of their salary is withdrawn. Therefore, we will create a system to improve beneficiaries' knowledge about their rights and duties".

"The INSS currently has 33 employees, two of whom are advisors. These employees according to the plan were assigned to work only in the institution in order to be given continuity to the work”, explained the President of INSS.

The ceremony was attended by members of the Government, representatives of the National Parliament, representatives of the Public Service Commission, the Director General of the MSSI, National and Municipal Directors, Heads of Department, representatives of the church and representatives the private sector.
