Council of Ministers Meeting of 21st February 2018

The Government met in the Government Palace, in Dili and analyzed the report on the Indonesian poultry products import risk assessment, presented by the Minister of State and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Estanislau da Silva. This report follows a previous need to reassess the ban decreed in 2008 by a Joint Order of the Ministries of Defense, Finance and Agriculture and Fisheries, on the import of poultry, hens and unprocessed poultry imports from countries where the bird flu endemic disease was detected, until irrefutable evidence is obtained of the disease’s eradication.

The Vice Minister for Development of Transport and Communications, Inácio Moreira, presented two private investment projects for the installation of submarine fiber-optic cables from Atambua to Díli and from Alor to Díli, which aim to promote access and speed of broadband internet supply services to all districts, including Oé-cusse Ambeno, as an important step towards the socio-economic development of Timor-Leste.

Finally, the Council of Ministers analyzed a Government Resolution proposal on the Strengthening of Coordination and Resources in the ASEAN Adherence Process, presented by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Aurélio Guterres. In light of the importance that the Seventh Constitutional Government has attributed in acceding to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, this resolution aims to ensure not only the essential financial resources but also the integrated coordination between the various government entities related to the process, namely through the establishment of an Inter-Ministerial Commission for ASEAN, to be coordinated by the MNEC and composed of senior officials from all relevant government entities and public institutions, to be led by the Minister of State and Counselor for National Security, José Ramos-Horta.
