3rd National Congress on Education

“Education is the pillar for consolidation of the Nation’s Identity and Development” is the central theme for this Congress, which will address a variety of key areas within the Educational sector.

On the first day, the 15th of May, a series of short lectures will be delivered with the topic “Dreaming Education: a vision for Timor-Leste”, with the participation of the former President of the Republic and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Dr. José Ramos-Horta, the former Prime-Minister and current President of the Authority of the Special Administrative Region of Oe-cusse Ambeno, Mari Alkatiri, and the Rector of the Fatumeta Institute of Philosophy and Theology, Father Domingos Alves. In the afternoon, there will be a presentation and analysis of the prospects for the Education sector in 2017.

On the 16th, in the morning, a lecture is scheduled regarding the Congress’s general topic, lead by Mário Viegas Carrascalão. For the remainder of the day, four thematic sessions will take place in parallel:
- National Curriculum for Education and management and training of teachers;
- Public and private Higher Education Management;
- Administration, School Inspections, educational infrastructure and resources;
- Participation of the parents, the community, private sector and other partners.

On the last day, the results of the thematic sessions will be presented and former Minister for Higher Education of Cabo Verde, António Correia da Silva, will deliver a lecture on “Policy on management and administration of the Education sector”.
At the end of the event, a summary of the sessions will be compiled in a Declaration of the Congress, presented by the General Director for Policy, Planning and Partnerships, Antoninho Pires.
The closing session will be attended by the Prime Minister, Rui Maria de Araújo and the Minister of State, Coordinator of Social Affairs and Minister for Education, António da Conceição.
