Government of Timor-Leste

Organised by the Press Council, this international conference has as its theme “Promoting freedom of the press and freedom of expression in Southeast Asia and the Pacific”.

This event will have as main speaker the Prime Minister Rui Maria de Araújo, and high officials of the Press Councils from other countries, namely from Indonesia (Ahmad Djauhar), Thailand, Myanmar (Maung San), Australia (David Weisbrot), Papua New Guinea (Alexander Rheeney), New Zealand (John William Hansen) and Sao Tome and Principe (Jesuley Patrick Lopes) will be present. The President of the Southeast Asian Press Alliance, Eko Maryadi, will also be present at the conference.

The Press Council of Timor-Leste, an independent advisory body composed of journalists and business people, promotes freedom of expression, the independence of the media and supports the development of journalists’ professional skills and techniques.
