The Secretary of State for the Support and Socio-Economic Promotion of Women, through the National Directorate of the Integrated Approach to Gender and Empowerment of Women, conducted a workshop on gender, gender-based violence and the Law against domestic violence focussing on equipping people with disabilities, in Dili, on April 4th, 2017.

The goal was to share information and engage in dialogue with people with disabilities, so that they can help others with similar problems in their neighbourhoods.

The Director General of the State Secretariat, Armando da Costa, stressed: “This programme is part of the implementation of the Government's policy for people with disabilities, as presented by the Ministry of Social Solidarity”.

The Director General added that the Government had adopted the Sustainable Development Goals, following the motto of “don't leave any person behind” in its development process. “It means that our development will reach all people, including those more vulnerable”, he said.

The General Director noted that “people with disabilities also participate actively in the development process and have many organizations to support them with their specific needs”.

30 people engaged in different organizations for people with disabilities took part in the workshop.
