Woman is the mother, educator and manager in the family and in society

The Government, through the State Secretariat for the Support and Socio-Economic Promotion of Women, celebrated International Women's Day with the theme “Women’s role in development”, in the Administrative Post of Baguia, in the Municipality of Baucau, on March 9th, 2017.

The Secretary of State, Veneranda Lemos Martins, stated that “we celebrate International Women's Day because the world recognizes the role of women as mothers, educators and managers, in the family and in society”.

"The world cherishes and values the participation of women in all sectors; here in Timor-Leste, we want to treasure our counterparts, our heroines and our ancestors, who gave us their courage so that today we may continue their development dream for this nation”, stressed Veneranda Lemos.

In turn, the President of the Authority of Baucau’s Municipality, António Guterres, stated: “In the Municipality of Baucau, the majority of the structures of the Villages is occupied by women. This shows that the promotion of women in the Villages, in the Hamlets and in the Administrative Posts is working well”.

The Secretary of State for Arts and Culture, Maria Isabel de Jesus Ximenes, the Police Commander in the city of Baucau, the administrator of the Administrative Post of Baguia and members of the community were also presence at this event.
