The Ministry of Social Solidarity, through the Ermera Municipality Social Solidarity Centre (EMSSC), symbolically delivered emergency support to 155 families affected by the severe weather at the Atsabe Administrative Post in Ermera on February 16th, 2017. These emergency materials were delivered by the EMSSC Director, João Bosco de Jesus Mendonça, accompanied by local authorities.

The Director informed that the support was given to these families, because they have suffered great damage due to the heavy rains and the windstorm of the previous week. A total of 155 volumes were distributed, containing a bag of rice, a family set, instant noodles, a basin, a bottle of edible oil and Dancow milk powder. EMSSC received support from the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Mercy Corps (a US humanitarian aid organization for disaster relief) for the transport of these emergency supplies, from Gleno to Atsabe.

Director Jesus de Mendonça also informed that a team is currently in the field, composed of the District Disaster Management Committee, the Fire Brigade, the Civil Protection, the Timor-Leste Red Cross and the Municipality Administration. The assessment on the extent of the damage in the homes of each community and the survey of the support to be provided by the EMSSC in building materials are under progress.
