Calendar for election process for the Village’s (Suco) bodies

The Village (Suco) bodies’ electoral process, throughout the country, runs from October to November.
The Village (Suco) Councils meet on October 14th, 2016, to form the polling stations and to receive the applications for Village (Suco) Chiefs.
The disclosure period of the election declarations is from October 14th to 27th, 2016.
The Hamlet (Aldeia) Assemblies meet on October 29th to elect the delegates of the Hamlet (Aldeia) to the Village (Suco) Council, as well as a Hamlet (Aldeia) Chief and Village (Suco) Chief. On this day, the vote count and the production of results for Hamlet (Aldeia) delegates and the Hamlet (Aldeia) Chiefs is made, and also the initial results for Village (Suco) Chiefs.
On October 30th, 2016, the Village (Suco) Councils meet to determine the final results of the Village (Suco) Chiefs election. If a second round is necessary, it will take place on November 13th, with the final results of the second round announced on November 14th.
If a second round for the election of a Village (Suco) Chief is not needed, a meeting of the Village (Suco) Council to designate the Lian-na’in (traditional authorities, “word masters”) and elect one male and one female youth representative to the Council will be held on November 9th, 2016. For Villages (Sucos) where a second round for the election of the Village (Suco) Chiefs is needed, the election of the Lian-na’in and youth representatives to the Village (Suco) Council will be on November 24th, 2016.
The new calendar for the community leaders’ electoral procedure was approved at the meeting of the Council of Ministers on September 13th, 2016.
