On 6 November 2015, a ceremony took place for the delivery of participation certificates in the specialised training activity in criminal investigation, under the scope of currency counterfeiting.

This two week training activity counted with the participation of inspectors and experts from the Scientific Police for Criminal Investigation, higher technicians from the Timor-Leste Central Bank and judicial magistrates, and was carried out by a team consisting of an investigation coordinator and an inspector, both from the Portuguese Polícia Judiciária (the Criminal Police).IMG_6790

This training activity is integrated in the training cycle of almost a dozen activities for the 2015-2016 biennium, which seek to improve the technical training and the development of competencies within the domains of criminal investigation, the scientific police and laboratorial analysis in Timor-Leste.

This project is included in the Justice component of the Timor-Leste Support Program to Democratic Governance, a cooperation delegated to the Camões Institute, I.P, by the European Union, in Portugal. Since 2012, and in partnership with the timorese Ministry of Justice and other local entities, this cooperation has accompanied the creation of a new and highly specialised criminal police body, in a area which is fundamental for the development of Timor-Leste.

IMG_6799The Scientific Police for Criminal Investigation, created in 2014, is made up of 47 investigators and 31 forensic experts, all trained under the scope of this program, in Timor-Leste and in the Polícia Judiciária School, in Portugal.

The ceremony counted with the presence of the Secretary of State for Land and Property, substituting the Minister for Justice, of representatives of several sovereign bodies, the European Union delegation and the Embassy of Portugal.
