Celebrations of "National Mourning"
During the year of 2015, the Timorese Government intends to conduct, across the territory, commemorative events, honouring heroes, guerrilla members and population in general, during the self-determination process. This commemorative framework includes September 4th, the day when the final result for the independence referendum in 1999 where known.
September 4th, 2015, sets the beginning of “National Mourning” and it will be intensely celebrated until December 31st, the “Day of the Heroes”, with the launching of the foundation stone for the construction of the “National Monument to the War-Sacrificed”.
During this period, traditional ceremonies and public campaigns will be conducted, aiming to bring awareness to all Timorese about the importance of the role of each one, on the current State Building process.
