The Prime Minister, Dr. Rui Maria de Araújo, and the President for the Special Regional Administrative Oe-cusse Ambeno Authority (acronym in Tetum: RAEOA), Dr. Mari Alkatiri, conducted the first meeting of the Coordination and Monitoring Committee of the RAEOA, at the Dominican Mothers’ Hall, in Oe-Cusse.

This Committee was established after the Central Government transferred powers to the RAEOA, being composed of members of Government holding relevant positions in areas connected to the Administration of the Special Administrative Region.

“I thank the contribution provided, in this meeting, by all members. And I hope that the technical staff from the ministries begin to adapt to the new forms of relationship between the Special Administrative Region and the Central Government”, stated the Head of Government.

The meeting also was attended by the Minister of Planning and Strategic Investment, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, by technical staff from the ministries, Regional Secretaries, Directors General and National Directors.

This first meeting was focused on the evaluation of the work carried out by the Special Administrative Region and the issues raised by the coordination of the RAEOA with the technical staff from the ministries and the Central Government.

At this meeting, it was discussed the issue of the need for the Central Government to approve some resolutions in order to consolidate the coordination of the institutions of the State, with the objective of supporting the development of the Special Administrative Region, taking into account the legal framework for the RAEOA, which is still to be finished.PM Oe-Cussi Ambeno PM 2015 RAEOA II

"I congratulate the President and Secretary of the RAEAO, for their efforts, particularly regarding the physical development and methodology to achieve great ideas. It is anticipated that this governance model functions as a pilot project, which could be expanded throughout the country. It is expected that this model will accelerate the development process of our country", stated the Head of Government.

It is expected that the Coordination and Monitoring Committee organizes another meeting before the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the Portuguese arrival on the island of Timor, which will take place in this Special Region, on November of this year.

After the meeting, Rui Maria de Araújo and Mari Alkatiri launched the foundation stone for the construction of the drinking water distribution network, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
