Special Olympics World Games 2015

The Special Olympics World Games 2015 take place from 25 July to 2 August, with the participation of 6,500 athletes and 2,000 coaches, representing 165 countries. This edition has the presence of Timorese athletes in the field of Athletics and Bocce (dexterity game, with balls).

Carmelita Carvalho, Anjelita da Costa, Felizarda da Costa, Óscar dos Reis, Mateus Guterres, Alcino Pereira, Amélia Ribeiro, João Soares (Atletismo) e Honório Moura (Bocce) will be the representatives for Timor-Leste.

The Special Olympics are an international organization that supports people with intellectual disabilities. The purpose of this organization is to develop their self-confidence, interpersonal skills and sense of accomplishment.

In 1988, the Special Olympics were recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and is the only sports organization authorized by the IOC to use the designation "Olympic" in the name.

The Special Olympics are held every two years.
