100 Days of the Sixth Constitutional Government
Working with Rigor and Responsibility
Tuesday the 26th of May marked the 100th day in office of the Sixth Constitutional Government. 100 days characterized by an energized executive driven by strong commitment to action. Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Rui Maria de Araújo declared that “the Government has been working with rigor and responsibility.”
In this short period the government has equipped schools and continued training thousands of teachers in the new school curriculum. The Primary Health Care Package has begun to be implemented in all health centers and health posts with special emphasis on Family Health.
To improve citizen access to essential basic services better quality roads and bridges have been worked on along with improvements to the public distribution of electricity, access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation. The Government has started to invest more in the agricultural sector so Timor-Leste can move towards food self sufficiency and increase income and employment opportunities in rural areas. New irrigation projects have begun, agricultural training centers have been opened and practical farming resources made available.
Along with preparing the new Organic Structure of the Government, the Sixth Constitutional Government Program and the Rectified Budget for 2015 the Government has introduced reforms in the financial, legislative and administrative systems. Reforms to ensure higher quality budget execution have commenced with particular attention being given to planning, budgeting, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of expenditure.
In keeping with its high priority on accountability, a report on the activities of the Sixth Constitutional Government in their first 100 days of office will be published on the 4th of June.
Spokesperson for the Sixth Constitutional Government, Minister of State Agio Pereira noted “this first 100 days has been a remarkable period of action. It is only the beginning of what the Government aims to achieve in its two and a half years of office as it continues to engage the community and work together with rigor and responsibility in service of the people of Timor-Leste.”
