Grand Opening of the Balibó Fort Hotel and Cultural and Heritage Centre

On March 20, at 10 am, the Balibó Fort Hotel and Cultural and Heritage Centre will be inaugurated in the presence of members of the Government.
H.E. Dr Rui Maria de Araújo, Prime Minister, H.E. Xanana Gusmão, Minister for Planning and Strategic Development and H.E Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, Minister for Tourism have been invited to participate together with the local community.
The Balibó House Trust works to honour the memories of the Balibó Five by enriching the lives and livelihoods of the Balibó people. After operating the Balibó Community Learning Centre for over a decade it is now taking a further step in fulfilling its mission with the opening of the Balibó Fort Hotel.
The historic Balibó Fort was built by the Portuguese in the eighteenth century and restoration works have also been completed respecting the Portuguese heritage of the site. With the Balibó Fort Hotel inside its walls this development will provide jobs and training, economic growth and a unique tourist destination for Timor-Leste.
