Prime Minister and President of the Republic meet to discuss Restructure of Government

At 3:00PM this afternoon the Prime Minister, H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão met with the President of the Republic, H.E. Taur Matan Ruak to discuss the proposed restructure of the Fifth Constitutional Government.

Presidential consultations regarding the restructure will continue throughout the week.

Prime Minister Gusmão has foreshadowed both a major restructure of the Government for sometime. He said that the objective of this change is to produce an executive that is efficient and effective, focused on achieving improved service delivery and invigorating and accelerating the implementation of the Strategic Development Plan.

To achieve this it will add highly capable people to serve who bring significant skill and experience to the Government, reduce the size of the executive to create a more efficient and functional body focused on results, and allow opportunities for a younger generation of leaders to make a contribution to the Nation.

Further information will be available as the President and Prime Minister make official responses regarding the Government Restructure in the coming days.
