The Government and the People of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste regret the passing away of Kevin Sherlock, an Australian who dedicated several years of his life studying and compiling information on Timor-Leste.

Born on March 8th, 1934, in Adelaide, Australia, Kevin Sherlock moved to Darwin in 1971, where he established his residence, working as a newsagent.

In 1974, he visited Timor-Leste for the first time, during his holidays, and upon returning home he started a research and compilation work, that lead to an extensive archive, which he made available to anyone interested in it. He left it to Charles Darwin University, thus allowing it to continue to be consulted.

He retired in 1999, giving even more of his time to his research on Timor-Leste.

In 2010, the State of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste officially honoured him for his work.

He passed away on October 2nd, 2014, at the Royal Darwin Hospital, after a long-term illness.
