Timor-Leste increases to $2 Million US the help to g7+ nations affected by the Ebola Crisis

On the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers, held in Dili, on October 2, 2014 the Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste decided to increase the aid from one to two Million American dollars to the g7+ nations affected by the Ebola Crisis announced in New York, on September 22nd, at the g7+ High Level Side Event at the United Nations which was attended by Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão. This decision was taken given the severity of the crisis caused by this epidemic that led the World Health Organization to declare "international emergency".

On this visit to New York, Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão also participated at the 69th General Assembly of the United Nations, where he delivered a speech emphasizing: “Despite the best efforts by the Secretary-General and his team in the UN, we are almost in 2015 and we know that 2.2 billion people throughout the world are already in or are entering the ranks of the extreme poor, without even knowing what the Millennium Development Goals are.”
