Press Release

Meeting of the Council of Ministers, August 12th, 2014

The Government met this Tuesday, August 12th, 2014, in the Council of Ministers’ meeting room, at the Government Palace in Díli, and approved:

1. Government Resolution, approving the strengthening of the support to Guinea Bissau, in order to ensure the normal functioning of the State institutions

Following the active support that Timor-Leste has been providing to Guinea Bissau, on the process for normalization of the political and institutional life and the construction of a peace and stability environment in this country, the Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste has decided to contribute with a month of salaries to Guinean public servants, worthing six million American dollars. This financial support is assured against the sending of a report on the implementation of the transfer.

This decision is taken considering the solidarity towards this country, member of the CPLP, and the importance that the payment of salaries to public service has in the strategy of Guinea Bissau towards good governance, as well as towards peace maintenance and national stability.

2. Government Resolution on the management of the fiber optic cable

This diploma assigns the management responsibilities of the fiber optic cable which is connected to the tower of the transmission line of EDTL (Electricity of Timor-Leste), as well as it usage and exploitation, to the Ministry of Transports and Communications.

Let us recall that the Ministry of Transport and Communication is responsible for the area of telecommunications and has, as its attributions, the responsibility to develop and regulate the activities on communications, as well as to optimize the means of communication through the improvement of the computer communication networks by the General Directorate for Transports and Communications.
