Timor-Leste welcomes leaders from eight countries

During the second half of July, under the X Conference of Heads of State and Government of the CPLP in Dili, Timor-Leste receives leaders of the eight countries of the Community, and also the Head of State of Equatorial Guinea.

A delegation of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea arrived this Tuesday, July 22, to the capital of Timor-Leste. Its President, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, led this delegation, for a two-day visit, where they will receive a response to their application for membership of CPLP. The President is accompanied by two State Ministers (Ministers of State of the Presidency of the Republic in Charge of Missions and Ministers of State of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation); the Delegate Minister of the Republic, in charge of External Security; the Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation; Ambassador of Equatorial Guinea in Portugal; and also various Advisers, General Directors, and others.

But the first delegation to arrive to the Timorese capital came from the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday, July 20, and was led by its president, Manuel Pinto da Costa, who will remain four days in the country. The delegation also includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and Communities, Natália Umbelina, and the Minister of Finance, Hélio Almeida Ginesio.

On the 21st, Monday, two delegations of the Republic of Angola arrived for a three-day visit, one with the President of the National Parliament, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, another with the Vice-President, Manuel Vicente. Secretary of State for Cooperation, Maria Angela Braganca also integrates the Angolan delegation.

But it was on Tuesday, the 22th, on the eve of the X Conference of Heads of State and Government of the CPLP, that most government delegations that were expected in Dili arrived at Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport.

Besides the President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, three other heads of state arrived: President of the Republic of Cape Verde, Carlos Fonseca and the President of Mozambique, Armando Emilio Guebuza, for a two days' visit, and the President of Portugal, Cavaco Silva, accompanied by the First Lady Maria Cavaco Silva, who will stay in Dili for three days.

From Portugal, also arrived the Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho, who in addition to participating in the Dili Summit, is on a two-day official visit to Timor-Leste. The Prime Minister of Portugal is the keynote speaker, along with the Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao and Minister for Finance, Emilia Pires, on the Seminar on "Economic Globalization and Investment Opportunities: CPLP and the Asia-Pacific" that will take place in the Dili Convention Centre, on July 24. The Portuguese delegation also includes the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Rui Machete, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Luís Campos Ferreira, the Minister of Health Paulo Macedo and the Secretary of State for Fiscal Affairs, Paul Núncio.

The Prime Minister, Domingos Simões Pereira, represented the Republic of Guinea Bissau. This delegation also included Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mário Lopes da Rosa and the Minister of Economy and Finance, João Geraldo Martins.

The Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paulo Cordeiro de Andrade Pinto, headed the delegation of the Federal Republic of Brazil.
